You can apply

Get these documents ready:

• your valid passport;
• the birth certificates linking each generation, from you back to an ancestor born before 1944 in the Americas or the Caribbean (or a DNA test);
• your marriage certificate, if your name has changed;
• proof of address, proof of occupation and a criminal record certificate less than 3 months old.

Gathering records can take several weeks. Your application is saved as you go, so you can come back any time. The $100 fee is only paid at the end, once your file is complete.
